The light at the end of the tunnel

I can tell it's Halloween. It's not the few pumpkins which are still for sale at various farms (or the illuminated one stuck on a post outside a primary school), nor is it the hand-painted posters announcing where the local village Halloween dance is to take place that are the clues about today. No, nothing as obvious as that. In my case, it turned out to be the leaves being blown off the tree and straight into my face and the attempt at drizzle from the grey clouds and the scarecrows which moved and became people.
Take another look at today's photograph.
If it was uploaded on any other day, it might not deserve a second glance. But today? You just know, don't you, that there is mystery in that lane, that something awaits the unwary?
Turns out it was a bend covered in mud.
I'm still upright, still pushing the boundaries of luck.
Anyhow, season's greetings and if you get the chance, say hello to all those spirits who help give this life such shimmers of anticip- ... –pation.

Don't do stupid – it's just not clever.
